Exclusive Edition v. Aqualand – Dushi –
Soul Mate Lola v.d. Blessewichof x Bijou Daisy-Sushi v. Aqualand
The E-litter ‘Van Aqualand’ miniature schnauzers black/silver was born on Saturday, November 12, 2022. The only puppy, a female, was born via Caesarean section.
On the ultrasound at 4 weeks gestation, there was not a single fruit to be seen and I assumed, just like last time in the spring of 2022, that Daisy had remained empty. Many people are disappointed (again) with this news. 3 weeks after the ultrasound, so 7 weeks after mating, Daisy’s nipples became very large, but this was attributed to false pregnancy. 1 day before the day Daisy would have been due, if she was pregnant, I felt (or so I thought) movement in her abdomen and also a hard lump on the left side. . . won’t it? After that I felt nothing more (the bump, but no movement) until 2 days later I clearly felt movement. Made an appointment with the vet, who was very surprised that I made an appointment, because the vet who performed the ultrasound never missed a puppy. Now this time it is and during the ultrasound there turned out to be 1 puppy in Daisy’s belly. What a surprise!
On day 65 of the pregnancy, Daisy started to get some signs of an approaching labor, but it didn’t really go through. On day 67 of the pregnancy, have another ultrasound made. Everything was fine with the puppy, but given that the delivery did not go through, it was decided in consultation to do a caesarean section. At 3:30 pm the singleton was born and turned out to be a female. Although the caesarean section went well, it turned out that mom and pup found each other very strange when they returned home. Also, the pup’s sucking reflexes weren’t really strong. In consultation with the vet, we decided to switch to tube feeding, since the puppy was clearly hungry, which manifested itself in continuous moaning and squeaking. So set an alarm every 2 hours and give tube feeding. Fortunately, that went pretty well and the little girl started to gain weight. Trying to get the pup to drink from mom every time, but both weren’t really interested in this, so continue to give tube feeding.
On the Friday evening after birth, the puppy spontaneously started drinking from mom and everything went well afterwards. After the penny dropped, the two were inseparable.
The pedigree name for this one-off became “Exclusive Edition v. Aqualand”. After it became clear that this little lady was going to make it all right, the future owners were informed of the birth of this surprise puppy. It was a complete surprise to them too, as I had to inform them earlier that there were no puppies coming, but they were happy that this little lady was available for them and they called her “Dushi”.
After literally some initial problems with walking, Dushi could eat what she wanted and was therefore a bit overweight, which made walking a bit more difficult than usual. After a visit to the physiotherapist and some regular muscle-strengthening exercises, the little girl started to stand on her feet better and within a few days the lady was walking like a lapwing!
As with everything so far, Dushi also had to get used to the transition to solid(er) food, but even after a few days it went on without any problems.
I had never had a single litter before and was therefore a bit worried about growing up without brothers and sisters for the first 8 weeks, but her big sister Roxx (Dazzly Roxx Bijou v. Aqualand) has been very sweet and gentle with her sister played. Mama Daisy also played with her, in addition to the normal care. Dushi doesn’t know what it’s like to have littermates, so she didn’t miss either. She regularly ran with the pack (dwarfs and bouviers) through the house or lay on the couch (on her lap) with grandma, mom and sister. She lacked nothing.
It was a special experience a loner nest . . . and the little diva Dushi has a royal life with her new owners, she winds everyone around her little paws!
