Orlando Barry Maylynn v. Aqualand
At the moment Lando is an insecure, reckless, pushy, very curious and idiosyncratic teenager of more than 1 year. He finds everything (that is new) quite exciting.
Lando has already had 2 new families in his short life. In both families he has grown above the heads of his owners, because the boundaries have not been clearly set and/or have not been conditioned (sufficiently). As a result, Lando appropriates tasks and behavior that are not desired, such as chasing anything that moves. To turn this behavior around, persistence and consistent action on the part of the boss is required. This should take at least one year to one and a half years, during which a short training session must take place 3 to 4 times a day to convert the ‘undesirable’ learned behavior into ‘desired’ behaviour. That is why we prefer to look for a single owner or a couple without children living at home and without other pets for Lando in order to keep the stimuli in the house to a minimum, certainly in the initial phase. Lando is attentive to everything. Outside, he constantly looks around and feels he has to keep an eye on and check everything. He has already started to teach him to focus on the handler, but since he has not been adequately taught this in his short life, it obviously needs (longer) time to learn this behaviour. He is very eager to learn and most times it works fine, but he still regularly finds the ambient sounds more interesting.
Indoors, he is a sweet and, in most cases, a quiet dog. He follows you everywhere, but also takes his rest.
At the moment Lando lives in my house (in the Netherlands) and walks with the other dogs. Sometimes he is too pushy and is reprimanded. He accepts that just fine. Staying home alone and a car ride is no problem for Lando.
Letting Lando run free is not possible at this stage, so he can’t really use his energy. First his chasing behavior has to be solved and then it can be trained to run loose. One step at a time! That is why I emphasize again that it will take a long(er) time to unlearn his ‘undesirable’ behavior and to convert it into ‘desired behaviour’.
Lando is an adolescent dog that needs a strict (re)education. He may not exceed the limit set. Black is black and white is white, there should be no gray area for him, because then he fills in things himself, resulting in unwanted behavior.
Who-o-who dares it with this sweet teenager and wants to invest a longer time in giving him confidence and getting Lando back on track.
I am convinced that once he understands what is expected of him and that he does not have to solve everything himself all the time, he is/becomes a buddy for life!
After 2 previous owners, it is very important for Lando to now get a forever home!
